The Gawler Districts Poultry Fanciers Association Annual show was held on July 27th in conjunction with the SA Waterfowl club at the South Australian Poultry Association hall in Salisbury with 290 fowls and eggs entered on the day and an additional 286 entries in the waterfowl classes which made the day a huge success.
Our judges were Brendan and Michael Lloyd from Victoria who both agreed that it was a great day with birds all in good condition and well presented. The Champion Bird in Show was won by the Noble Family with a standard bred black Orpington cockerel which was an exceptional bird. The Reserve Champion Bird in Show was won by the Hall Family with a bantam Rhode Island Red pullet and again a well-deserved winner on the day.
The show also selected a Rare Breed exhibit which was won by a new exhibitor Annette Bowers with a buff Cochin hen and the Judges Encouragement award went to a Junior Mahli Stringer who exhibited a large Brahma cockerel that was almost as big as she is but clearly very gentle as she did handle the bird herself.
